The economic benefits of modernising the Tube

A new London First-commissioned report sets out the benefits of modernising the Tube and the severe consequences for passengers of postponing it.

London’s economic success has outstripped improvements to the capital’s public transport. The commute into central London is a constant, often grim, reminder. But the scene is set for change. Decades of underinvestment in London’s transport infrastructure are being addressed by a concerted, long-term programme of investment and renewal. Crossrail and a modernised Tube are the two key planks of this programme.

The improvements brought about by the Tube's modernisation are set to end the impoverished travelling experience of millions, cater for the capital's growth and underpin London's competitiveness.

This report portrays, in human terms that complement the often dry economic analysis, the benefits of delivering the Tube upgrade programme for all of those who work, live or just spend time in London.
